How do I make a study plan for an exam?
Setup takes two steps.
Your exam. Give the plan a title and your syllabus, pasted or uploaded as up to four files: PDF, DOCX, PowerPoint, text, Markdown, HTML, or a photo or screenshot. You can add study materials, which Nibit files by topic in a notebook for the plan, and point it at notes you already have on the subject.
Your time. Pick the exam date, and optionally the time. Then choose which days you study, how long you can study each day (15 minutes to 4 hours), how long each session should be, and when you like to start.
You can also tell it how ready you feel, what format the exam takes, and anything else it should know. Nibit reads the syllabus and breaks it into topics, weighting each one by how much of the exam it's likely to cover.
How does it find my weak topics?
You choose how. Take a short diagnostic quiz, and any topic where you get under 65% right becomes a focus. Or pick the topics yourself, starting from the weak areas Nibit already knows about from your quizzes and flashcards. Or focus on everything equally.
Focus topics get the most sessions and the earliest practice. Every other topic is still covered, at least briefly.
What do the sessions look like?
There are four kinds:
| Session | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Learn | First pass at a topic |
| Practice | Working with a topic you've started |
| Review | Short refreshers to keep a topic from fading |
| Mock | A full practice exam near the end |
Learning comes first, practice in the middle, and review and a mock in the final days. After you first learn or practise a topic, Nibit adds short 15-minute reviews three and seven days later, if there's time left that day.
Each session opens in a session runner with three steps:
- Warm-up. Write what you remember about the topic and Nibit checks it against the key ideas, then a few quick questions from your last session, starting with the ones you missed.
- Study. The material for the topic, its revision notes, a checklist of activities, the questions you've missed on it before, its flashcards and a scratch pad.
- Check. A five-question quiz, marked straight away.
A mock session opens a ten-question exam instead. If you uploaded past papers, the mock uses their questions.
Does it work around my classes?
Yes. Every timed event on your calendar, including recurring classes, counts as busy, and sessions slide past them. The plan never uses more than your daily study time, never runs past 11pm, and never puts a session on exam day. If you have plans for more than one exam, they share your daily time instead of adding up.
If there isn't enough time for every session, Nibit tells you how many didn't fit, so you can allow more time per day.
What happens if I miss a session?
A session counts as missed six hours after its slot ends, so starting late isn't the same as skipping it. When you next open the plan, Nibit moves missed sessions and everything after them forward to your next free study days, around your calendar as it is now. Finished sessions stay where they were.
You can also press Replan at any time, and the plan replans itself when you finish a session or change your exam date or availability. Replanning doesn't use any of your allowance.
Does the plan change as I study?
Yes. Nibit keeps a readiness score for each topic from your plan quizzes, session checks, flashcard reviews and finished sessions, giving recent results more weight than old ones. Each topic is marked weak, developing or solid, with an overall figure for the exam and how it's moved over the last week.
Once you've mastered a topic, its remaining learn and practice sessions turn into a single short review. When a topic is still weak, the plan adds practice sessions before the mock. A weekly digest shows sessions done and missed, quizzes taken, minutes studied, and which topics improved.
How much does it cost?
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| New study plans | 1 a week | Unlimited |
| Study sessions started | 5 a week | Unlimited |
| Replanning | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Price | $0 | $12 a month or $85 a year |
Quizzes, flashcards and notes that a plan makes come out of their own weekly allowances. Free limits reset every Monday. Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax, except in the EU, where Pro is $15 a month or $105 a year including VAT. The full plans table is on the home page.
What it doesn't do
- You can't drag sessions around. You can change a session's time by editing it, but the next replan may move it again.
- It doesn't send reminders. Plan sessions are added without a reminder. Reminders you set on calendar events only appear while Nibit is open.
- It doesn't sync to Google or Apple Calendar. Your plan lives on Nibit's calendar.
- Scanned PDF syllabi need a photo instead. A PDF that's only scanned images is turned away; take a photo or screenshot of it and upload that.
Questions people ask
Can I plan for several exams at once?
Yes. Each exam gets its own plan, and the plans share your daily study time so they never overbook a day. On the free plan you can start one new plan a week.
Are my notes used to train AI?
No. Nothing you put in Nibit or send through its AI features is used to train Nibit's or OpenAI's models. A syllabus is read once to build the plan and isn't stored. The Privacy Policy has the details.
How is this different from the guides on planning?
The revision guide explains the method, so you can plan by hand, and the semester guide walks through setting up every course on day one. This page is about the planner itself.
