Can an app take notes during a lecture?
Yes. Start a recording session and choose what it is, a lecture or class, a meeting, an interview and so on, or let Nibit work it out. Every five minutes Nibit transcribes the latest stretch and writes notes from it onto the page. If you don't want to wait, "Transcribe now" sends what it has heard so far.
Type your own notes in the side pane while it records; each one is timestamped. When the session ends, Nibit tidies the session's notes automatically and keeps the version from before the tidy in version history. If you typed notes, you choose to keep them side by side, merge them in by timing, or merge them with AI, and you review every change before it's written. The lecture notes guide walks through a whole session.
Can it record an online lecture or a video call?
Yes, depending on where you run it. Choose the microphone, your computer's audio, or both.
| Where you record | Computer audio |
|---|---|
| Mac and Windows apps | Yes, from any app, Zoom and Teams included |
| Chrome or Edge on Windows | Yes |
| Chrome on Mac | From a shared browser tab only |
| Firefox and Safari | No, microphone only |
| Phones | No, microphone only |
On a Mac, the desktop app needs macOS 13 or later and the Screen Recording permission. For a lecture in Zoom or Teams, use the desktop app.
What happens to the recording afterwards?
When you stop, the full recording is saved with the page, so you can play it back next to the notes it produced. Nibit warns you if you try to close the window while it's still recording or saving.
Can I transcribe a recording I already have?
Yes. Add an audio file up to 100 MB, in MP3, M4A, WAV, WEBM, OGG, FLAC or MP4, and Nibit transcribes it as a source for notes. You can also make notes from a YouTube video's English captions.
How much does it cost?
| Free | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Recording and transcription | 20 minutes a week | Unlimited |
| YouTube video length | Up to 30 minutes a video | Up to 4 hours a video |
| Price | $0 | $12 a month or $85 a year |
On the free plan, the tidy at the end of a session and merging your notes with AI each use the weekly Polish allowance. Free limits reset every Monday. Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax, except in the EU, where Pro is $15 a month or $105 a year including VAT. The full plans table is on the home page.
What it doesn't do
- Twenty minutes isn't a full lecture. The free allowance is enough to try it, or to record the part of a class that matters. A full-length lecture every week needs Pro.
- It needs a steady connection. Each five-minute batch is sent as you go and retried three times if the connection drops. A batch that still fails isn't kept for later, though the recording carries on. If notes can't be written but the transcript came back, the raw transcript goes on the page so nothing said is lost.
- The recording is saved when you stop. Until then it's held in the app, and if saving fails your notes are kept but the audio isn't.
- It doesn't ask permission for you. Some universities and lecturers don't allow recording, or ask that you check first. Find out before you press record.
Questions people ask
Are my recordings used to train AI?
No. Nothing you put in Nibit or send through its AI features is used to train Nibit's or OpenAI's models. Audio sent for transcription is processed by OpenAI in the United States and deleted after up to 30 days. Your recordings stay in your account until you delete them. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Can I add photos during the session?
Yes. Add up to six images as side notes, a whiteboard or a slide, for example, and they're placed with your notes.
Can I make flashcards from a lecture?
Yes. The session ends as notes on a page, which can become a flashcard deck or a quiz.
