Where NotebookLM is the better choice
- You're working from a stack of documents. At least fifty sources a notebook, in more formats than Nibit reads, including Google Docs, Sheets, ePub and images, makes it strong for research, reading lists and literature reviews.
- You want more ways to see your sources. Video overviews, mind maps and reports in several formats go beyond what Nibit makes.
- You learn by listening. Audio Overviews come in several formats, and in interactive mode you can join the conversation and ask the hosts a question out loud.
- You live in Google's tools. It reads Google Docs, Slides and Sheets directly, and teachers can assign notebooks through Canvas and Schoology.
- You want a native phone app. NotebookLM has apps for iPhone and Android.
Where Nibit is the better choice
- You take your own notes. Nibit is a notebook first. You write during the lecture with headings, tables, equations, sketches and diagrams, and those pages are what everything else is built from. In NotebookLM, your notes sit in a side panel next to the sources.
- You want your notes improved, not replaced. Polish tidies, organises or fills out what you wrote, and shows every change for you to accept or reject. Notes Nibit generates cite each source by number, and anything added from general knowledge is marked as such.
- You're in the lecture right now. Nibit records it and turns it into notes every five minutes, merging in what you type yourself.
- You want the whole run-up to an exam in one place. Flashcards you can edit before saving, quizzes with AI grading, weak topics tracked across both, a calendar read from your syllabus, and a study planner that schedules sessions around your classes and replans when you miss one.
- You lose Wi-Fi. Open pages keep working, and the Mac and Windows apps keep your own pages on your computer.
Can I use both?
Yes. A common split is NotebookLM for research across a large set of readings, and Nibit for lecture notes and revision. Anything you write in Nibit can be exported as Markdown, Word or PDF, all formats NotebookLM can take in as sources.
Questions people ask
Is Nibit's podcast like NotebookLM's Audio Overviews?
It's the same idea: two voices talking through your material. NotebookLM offers more formats and lets you ask questions out loud. Nibit's podcast is built from your own notes and answers questions you type, inserting the answer into the episode before carrying on. See Nibit's podcast.
Which one makes better flashcards?
Both make flashcards and quizzes from your material. Nibit adds a draft you edit before saving, CSV export, timed quizzes, AI grading with partial credit for written answers, and weak topics that feed a study plan. See flashcards and quizzes.
Is NotebookLM the same as Gemini Notebook?
Google's help pages now use the name Gemini Notebook for what was NotebookLM. This page uses the older name because it's the one most people still search for.
